Visiting Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is open to visitors Monday to Saturday and closes to sightseers on Sundays because it is a working church. Book online for the cheapest tickets, arrive at the first entry slot to beat the crowds, and allow at least 90 minutes to see the highlights without rushing.

These are the official Westminster Abbey entry prices. The lower figure applies from 25 June to 1 September 2026, while the UK Government’s temporary VAT reduction is in place; the higher figure applies either side of it. Under-6s go free and the multimedia audio guide is included. Tickets bought through partners such as Viator may differ slightly — it is worth comparing both.
Best time to arrive
The Abbey is busiest between 10:30 and 13:00. For the quietest experience, aim for the very first entry slot (09:30, Monday to Saturday) or the last hour of the afternoon. Weekdays outside school holidays are noticeably calmer than Saturdays.
Accessibility
Most of the Abbey is step-free, including the nave, the Lady Chapel and Poets’ Corner. The Cloisters and the museum in the medieval undercroft are also accessible. Complimentary companion tickets are available for visitors who need support, and manual wheelchairs can be borrowed at the entrance. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout.
How long to allow
Most visitors spend 90 minutes to 2 hours at Westminster Abbey. Allow 3 hours if you plan to join a verger-led tour (highly recommended), climb the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries for the medieval triforium view, or attend a choral service after your visit.
